Germantown Cybersecurity Event Update
Posted on Feb 6th, 2024
Despite a cybersecurity attack on the City’s information technology systems on Friday, February 2, the impacts on service delivery are minimal. City phone lines have been restored, public safety services are operating normally and sanitation collection continues. Initial assessments indicate that data related to finance and utilities has not been compromised. This includes any customer payment information.
Wi-Fi at City facilities, including the Germantown Community Library and the Germantown Athletic Club, is temporarily unavailable. Customer service staff are standing by to answer questions and provide assistance at (901) 757-7200 or CustomerService@Germantown-TN.gov.
The attack was contained and has potentially impacted a limited number of internal, on-site servers. Throughout the weekend, Information Technology staff have worked to further limit the impact and steadily restore system functionality. Incident response specialists are assisting with the restoration process and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the ongoing criminal investigation.
As additional information is available, updates will be shared to the City’s website and social media accounts.
